Staysi legal
Cookies & Storage
Browser storage Staysi uses and why it is needed.
Effective and version date: August 25, 2026 · Version 2026-08-25
Current approach
Staysi currently uses cookies, local storage, session storage, service-worker/cache storage, and similar browser capabilities for authentication, guest-session persistence, security, preferences, and application functionality. Staysi does not currently use advertising cookies, behavioral-advertising trackers, or third-party analytics pixels.
Because current storage is used for requested service functionality or security rather than advertising, Staysi does not display a generic consent banner merely to obtain consent for strictly necessary storage. If non-essential tracking is introduced, the consent and preference experience will be updated before that tracking is enabled where required.
Storage inventory
- Guest session cookie: HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict and Secure in production; authenticates an authorized guest session and expires with that authorization.
- staysi-device-id in local storage: persistent random device identifier used to bind and remember authorized guest access on that device.
- Remembered guest-session metadata in local storage: lets a guest return to an authorized stay without re-entering access information while the server-side session remains valid.
- Theme and language preferences: remember display and language choices.
- Firebase authentication storage: supports host authentication and session continuity.
- Service worker/cache storage: supports app assets, installability, and reliable loading behavior.
- Stripe storage may be used when a host opens a payment flow; Stripe controls its own payment-security storage.
Third-party network requests
Some features communicate with third parties only when needed to provide that feature, such as Stripe for payments, Geoapify for maps, OpenAI for AI-assisted features, and SmartThings for host-connected smart-home controls. Staysi typography no longer requires a Google Fonts request.
Controls
Blocking or deleting strictly necessary authentication/storage can sign you out, remove remembered stays, reset preferences, or prevent parts of Staysi from working. Hosts can ask storage/privacy questions through Host Support or Privacy & data. Guests can contact their host for stay-specific privacy questions.
